First of July Decision
by Gregory Severance waiting area railroad decided rip out the rug sundown breeze universality embroidery sportsmen in the anticipation of palm trees chrysanthemum to take the next train lexicography ontology iconography a thousand suns fires children out of control ringside seats unrequited intoxication can't contact anybody there keyholes soundless motorcycles pregnancy obtrudes look at that light over there we used to catch butterflies to tell them of change of plan repetitious obscure portentous nonsensical inverted slogans of gumbo oleander corroborating seersucker landlords the seven-eleven conscience-bound wirehum clandestine plenitude sometimes when people are eating it looks like they are talking to themselves change at Jamaica sucking on a pretzel sediment in the pear juice plastic coffee container lid stained with coffee spiraling liquid walk down Seventh Avenue from Times Square paper napkins vibrating on the table in the breeze of the overhead ceiling fan gratuity inferiority diminutive sparklers bottle rockets window sitting on Prince Street sip diet cola bah bah bih bah beh buh bah beh beh bah buuuuuuuulllllbbbbuuulll unvanquished botanical garden turtle soup ducks hopping on rocks sweating in pursuit of jumbo jet star eyes itch and droop pollen filled airJuly 1994 |
